This is really a great idea and I think economists do need these resources for serious talk. I would like to suggest our site https://recoup09.wordpress.com for inclusion into the portal. We are based at Cambridge University and are looking at the interface between education and poverty (through its social and labour market outcomes).

Nice idea.; as if I didn't have enough on my plate studying for the prelim's and enduring course-work that now I will read through here and Professor Langlois' blog. May I offer Brad DeLong's Semi-Daily Journal (http://delong.typepad.com/) as fitting your criteria above.

What a great idea. I really like your focus on the academic. There are plenty of sites that talk about other sites and certainly journalists do a great job of covering each other and themselves.

Consider FinanceProfessor as one to add:
http://financeprofessorblog.blogspot.com/

Jim does a great job at highlighting recent finance research (mostly from SSRN, but also things that he's seen at conferences)
